Our History
The history of ophthalmology in our family begins with Dr. Carlos George Burroughs, a pioneer in vision care in Puerto Plata, who with dedication and passion paved the way for a medical legacy dedicated to serving the community. His vision of offering attentive, humane, and quality care laid the foundations for what we know today as the Dr. Burroughs Ophthalmology Unit.
That commitment was continued by his son, Dr. Carlos Juan Burroughs, who consolidated and expanded the practice with a modern and specialized approach, always maintaining excellence and humane treatment of each patient as its essence. Today, the third generation, represented by Dr. Amelia Burroughs, continues this legacy with an innovative vision, integrating new subspecialties and cutting-edge technology, thus reaffirming more than three generations of dedication, tradition, and excellence in ophthalmology at the service of Puerto Plata.

At our clinic, we offer comprehensive care in various areas of ophthalmology, including general ophthalmology, cataracts, glaucoma, retina and vitreous, pediatric ophthalmology, strabismus, and optometry.
In addition, we offer a wide range of diagnostic tests to accurately assess our patients' visual health, such as campimetry, optical coherence tomography (OCT) of the macula and nerve, pachymetry, tonometry, and anterior and posterior segment photography.
